The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has officially called off its nationwide strike following successful negotiations with the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors.
According to the Ministry of Health, the breakthrough, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is set to ensure the immediate return of clinical officers to duty within 24 hours.
Speaking after the signing of the agreement, Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system while addressing the concerns raised by clinical officers.
“As we advance Universal Health Coverage under Taifa Care, constructive engagement remains key to strengthening our health system. We appreciate the dedication of clinical officers and urge them to resume duty as we work towards lasting solutions,” Dr. Barasa stated.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in ensuring continuous healthcare service delivery while fostering long-term collaboration between healthcare workers and the government.
The Council of Governors, led by Chairman Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving healthcare services across counties.
The signing ceremony was officiated by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, alongside Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai.
With this agreement, clinical officers across the country are set to resume their duties, ensuring Kenyans continue to receive essential healthcare services without disruption.
