The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has released a new set of guidelines, in which comedians and technicians will be required to get accreditation from January 2020.
Also included in the new guidelines are talk-show hosts, continuity presenters and broadcast engineers.
MCK chief executive officer David Omwoyo said that there is a new set of requirements for accreditation, whereby people will have to undergo a mandatory seven-day course on media law and ethics. The course will be offered by the MCK Academy.
The new press cards are said to have enhanced features such as micro-chip, magnetic strip, and color coding.
The council also said that a new accreditation will be undertaken from January to March 2020. Those already accredited were told that their press cards would expire on December 2019.
The changes are meant to weed out unethical and unaccredited journalists, so as to improve the journalism practice in the country.
