The President of the Law Society of Kenya Faith Odhiambo said that all the 187 protestors arrested during the anti-government protest on Tuesday are to be released on Bond.
These protestors were arraigned in Mlimani Law Court on Wednesday with all of them facing various charges.
According to the LSK President, all the adults were granted a bond of Ksh. 50,000 and to be released upon providing details of their families while children staying separately at Capitol Hill police station granted a bond of Ksh. 10,000 and also to provide parents’ details.
“After a long day in court stretching late into the night, the Magistrates Court at Milimani rendered its ruling on the 187 people arrested and charged following yesterday’s protests,” the LSK President wrote on her X account.
“The court has granted each of the children arrested a personal bond of Kshs. 10,000 and has ordered that they be held at Capitol Hill police station separate from the adults as they provide details of their parents in accordance with the bond terms. The adults were each given a Personal bond of Kshs. 50,000 and will be released after providing details of their close family and relatives,” she added.
Faith Odhiambo went further to say that the court has set a deadline of 10 am for the police to ensure that all necessary information of the arrested individuals is documented and their release is carried out, to prevent the ongoing issue of police delaying release procedures despite court orders.
“The court gave the police a deadline of 10 am by which time all relevant details of the arrested persons ought to have been recorded and their release secured,” stated Faith.
The court will give directions on how children can be given protection as most are orphaned street children.
