The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, presided over the inauguration of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Pending Medical Claims Verification Committee at Afya House, Nairobi.
The Committee, established through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 4069 of 28th March 2025, is mandated to scrutinize and verify pending medical claims submitted to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) between 1st July 2022 and 30th September 2024.
It will also make recommendations to the Ministry of Health on the settlement of verified claims, among other responsibilities.
In his remarks, the Health Cabinet Secretary, Duale, expressed confidence in the Committee and urged the members to undertake a thorough and objective review of all outstanding claims.
He emphasized that while the Government acknowledges the financial constraints facing some healthcare providers, transparency, accountability, and value for money must guide the entire verification process.
“This Committee is a critical step towards restoring public trust in our health financing system. We must ensure that every shilling spent delivers meaningful health outcomes, in line with the Government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” said the CS.
Committee Chairperson Mr. James Masiro acknowledged the significant and urgent nature of the task ahead and assured the Ministry of the team’s commitment to meet the established timelines
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, diligence, and integrity, noting the sensitivity of the assignment and the need to uphold public trust.
“We understand that the success of this process depends on our ability to work collaboratively and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. We are fully committed to earning and sustaining the trust placed in us,” he stated.
