Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has issued a stern directive for immediate reforms in national referral hospitals following a recent security breach at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
Speaking during a high-level meeting with chief executive officers of public hospitals, CS Duale expressed concern over systemic failures in leadership, governance, and operational safety that have increasingly compromised service delivery and public confidence.
“Speaking to hospital CEOs, he highlighted systemic failures in leadership, governance, and safety. He urged immediate internal reviews, improved discipline, updated crisis communication plans, and timely audit reports,” noted MOH.
The CS directed all national referral hospitals to conduct immediate internal reviews, update their crisis communication protocols, and ensure timely submission of audit reports.
He also emphasized the importance of reinforcing hospital management structures to prevent future breaches and failures.
In a bid to enhance security, the Ministry of Health will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to implement new safety measures across key medical facilities.
As the government intensifies efforts to reform the health sector, CS Duale reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to creating a responsive, accountable, and safe healthcare system for all Kenyans.
