DP Kindiki Warns Against Divisive Politics, Champions Economic Development

By Phyllis Mwende

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki urged Kenyans to reject divisive politics based on ethnicity, region or religion, warning that such rhetoric undermines national stability.

“Merchants of ethnic, regional and religious disharmony are a serious threat to the unity, indivisibility, security and stability of our country and must be rejected by all the citizens of goodwill,” Kindiki stated.

He was speaking during an Economic Empowerment Programme at Ithookwe Grounds in Kitui Central, where he affirmed the government’s commitment to uplifting grassroots communities through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“We are on course in the fulfilment of the commitments made in 2022 to uplift the socio-economic status of all Kenyans and dignify the daily toil of Mama Mboga, hawkers, boda boda riders, Jua Kali artisans and other micro and small enterprises,” he said.

Kindiki noted that 400 modern markets were under construction across the country, and stalled roads were being completed to improve trade and mobility.

He revealed that in Kitui County alone, 16,000 households were being connected to electricity at a cost of KSh 2 billion. Kitui Central Constituency would benefit from 2,000 new connections costing KSh 200 million.

The empowerment event supported SACCOs for women, youth, boda boda riders and artisans.

Present at the function were National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Majority Leaders Kimani Ichung’wah and Aaron Cheruiyot, MPs, Kitui County Assembly members and government officials.

This highlights the government’s effort to promote unity, service delivery and progress for all Kenyans.
