The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson M. Ingonga, CBS, OGW, has urged law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth to enhance collaboration in tackling terrorism, money laundering and other transnational organised crimes.

Speaking at the official opening of the 23rd Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa, Ingonga highlighted the importance of joint efforts through platforms such as the Extremism (CVE) Unit, the Commonwealth Cyber Declaration Programme, and the Commonwealth Security Group (CSG).

“These initiatives are critical opportunities to strengthen our effectiveness in addressing threats to national and international security,” said Ingonga.

Ingonga also emphasized the need for support that goes beyond prosecution. This includes efforts in reconstruction, disengagement, reintegration and reconciliation to tackle the root causes of terrorism and to ensure long-term peace and stability.

He encouraged delegates to make the most of the HOPAC forum for open discussions and to develop strategies for enhanced international cooperation.

“Let us seize this opportunity to build bridges, break down barriers, and forge an unbreakable chain of collaboration,” he said.

Attendees at the three-day conference in Mombasa include Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin and nineteen Heads of Prosecuting Authorities from around the Commonwealth, including representatives from the United Kingdom, Australia and Wales, as well as several African countries such as Zambia, Uganda and Mozambique.

The conference also features international legal experts and regional stakeholders from the Criminal Justice System, alongside representatives from the International Association of Prosecutors.
