EACC Unveils Anti-Corruption Report On Probation, Aftercare Services

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on 23rd September 2024 presented a comprehensive report to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, detailing a systems audit of the Probation and Aftercare Service under the State Department for Correctional Services.

The report, aimed at identifying and addressing systemic weaknesses that may foster corruption and unethical practices, was presented by EACC Vice Chairperson Dr. Monica Muiru to Dr. Salome Muhia-Beacco, the Principal Secretary, State Department of Correctional Services, at Teleposta Towers.

According to the EACC, the audit conducted between February 5, 2024, and March 22, 2024, assessed the Probation and Aftercare Service Headquarters, nine regional offices, 14 county offices, 14 probation stations, and nine probation institutions.

“The systems review, conducted between February 5, 2024, and March 22, 2024, covered the Probation and Aftercare Service Headquarters, 9 regional offices, 14 county offices, 14 probation stations, and 9 probation institutions,” the EACC noted.

The report  revealed critical areas of concern and provided key reform recommendations for the Ministry to implement, ensuring enhanced integrity and transparency in the delivery of probation and aftercare services.

In addition to this report, the EACC has completed a similar systems review of the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) Programme under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, focusing on the State Department for Social Protection & Senior Citizen Affairs.

“The Commission has also completed a similar systems review exercise targeting implementation of the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) Programme under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, State Department for Social Protection & Senior Citizen Affairs,” the EACC added.

This ongoing commitment underscores the Commission’s proactive role in preventing and disrupting corruption in public entities, reinforcing accountability and good governance across Kenya’s public service sector.
