Embu trader counting loss after thugs break into his electronic shop

A trader in Embu Town is counting losses after thugs broke into his electronics shop and stole goods and cash valued at an estimated half a million shillings, Sunday night.

The owner, Harrison Waihenya, said the thugs gained entry into his shop located within the CBD along Embu-Kiritiri road, by cutting the padlock and stole Sh. 172, 000 cash and assorted electronic items, including TV sets, sub-woofers and other accessories.

The perturbed businessman explained that he reported to his work place, Monday morning, at around 7. 30 am, only to find his shop broken into and swept clean.

“It puzzles me that thugs can stage a daring robbery at the heart of Embu CBD without anybody noticing,” Waihenya lamented.

Interestingly, the shop lies next to Embu-Kianjokoma matatu stage and opposite a petrol station that operates 24 hours basis.

The robbery brings into sharp focus the increasing wave of insecurity across major towns in the County with security agencies being put on the spot over laxity.

Last year in September, Evurore Ward Member of the Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Duncan Mbui, was attacked and injured when thugs broke into his house in Ishiara, Mbeere North Sub-county.

In the same month, four men were captured on CCTV camera, breaking into houses in a residential apartment in Kigari Trading Center in broad daylight and took away assorted household items, including TV sets and gas cylinders.

In both instances, no arrests have been made so far.

Residents of Manyatta Constituency, Wednesday, during a public participation forum on County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), called for transfer of senior police officers in the area over soaring cases of theft, burglary and armed robberies.
