Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and four others have been found guilty of irregularly awarding tenders worth Ksh. 588 million.

The ruling was delivered by Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki, marking a major victory in Kenya’s ongoing fight against corruption.

“Ex-Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and four others have been found guilty of irregularly awarding tenders worth Ksh. 588 million,” the ODPP noted.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, successfully proved that Waititu and his co-accused engaged in multiple offenses, including conflict of interest, abuse of office, fraudulent procurement practices, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and dealing with suspected property.

Convicted alongside Waititu were his wife, Susan Wangari Ndung’u, former Kiambu County Chief Officer for Roads, Transport, Public Works, and Utilities, Luka Mwangi Wahinya, and Charles Chege Mbuthia and Beth Wangeci Mburu, both directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited.

The case revolved around the awarding of a multi-million shilling tender in 2018 during Waititu’s tenure as governor.

“The charges relate to the award of the said tender during Waititu’s tenure as county boss in 2018,” the ODPP stated.

The prosecution team, led by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda, Principal Prosecution Counsels Linda Mwamburi and Faith Mwila, and Prosecution Counsel Delroy Mwasaru, called 32 witnesses to testify against the accused.

This conviction underscores Kenya’s commitment to holding public officials accountable for corruption and misuse of public resources.
