Fertiliser Deal Set to Transform Kenyan Farming

The Prime Cabinet Secretary(CS) and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, visited Morocco’s Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), the leading state-owned phosphate and fertilizer powerhouse, in a bid to deepen Kenya’s agricultural transformation through strategic collaboration.

“This partnership is a step forward in ensuring Kenyan soils receive customized, high-quality nutrients, tailored for our unique tropical conditions, while advancing food security and empowering farmers,” said Mudavadi.

Mudavadi visited OCP’s headquarters in Casablanca and engaged in productive discussions with Mr. Iliass El Fali, OCP Group Managing Director for Corporate Strategy, and Mr. Mohamed Hettiti, CEO of OCP Africa.

“At the heart of our talks was the urgent need to accelerate plans to establish a fertilizer blending plant in Kenya, an initiative poised to significantly lower input costs and enhance yields for Kenyan farmers,” continued PCS Mudavadi.

According to the OCP Africa official website, it was created in 2016 to contribute to the sustainable development of African agriculture. They develop fertilizer solutions customized to local conditions and crop needs, and also work with farmers and other partners.

They reaffirmed their commitment to quality by unveiling a robust packaging innovation, which consisted of heavy-duty, moisture-resistant Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) bags designed to preserve fertilizer integrity and combat the spread of counterfeit products.

According to their official website, OCP enables smallholder farmers to thrive and prosper. They have invested heavily to develop strategic partnerships with governments, institutions, experts and other players in the agricultural field to provide the full range of support farmers need to prosper.
