The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has today secured the arraignment of Ms. Asembo Babra Gladys, a former employee of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC), over allegations of forging academic certificates to obtain employment and fraudulently acquire public funds totaling Kes 6,236,053.10.
Ms. Asembo appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to face a series of charges, among them fraudulent acquisition of public funds, deceiving a principal contrary to the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, forgery and uttering a false document under the Penal Code.
The case follows an investigation launched after a report was filed alleging that Ms. Asembo had secured employment as an ICT Assistant using a falsified Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.
According to the reports the certificate presented was forged but made to resemble an authentic document issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Upon concluding its investigations, EACC forwarded the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which reviewed the evidence and subsequently approved the charges.
Ms. Asembo was first arrested on September 3, 2025, and later released on a Kes 25,000 cash bail pending her arraignment on September 5, 2025.
“Ms. Asembo was initially arrested on September 3, 2025, and released on a cash bail of Kes25,000, pending arraignment on September 5, 2025. However, she failed to appear in court and went into hiding, prompting the court to issue a warrant of arrest on September 17, 2025. She was re-arrested today at her hideout and subsequently taken to court, where she denied all the charges. She was released on a bond of Kes1,000,000 with two sureties of a similar amount,” stated the commission.
The case will be mentioned on a later date for pre-trial directions.
