Gang Rapists, Robbery with Violence Suspects Nabbed

Two notorious suspects who have been causing chaos in Yala, Siaya and Maseno have been apprehended by detectives from Kisumu West, in collaboration with their colleagues from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in the Nyanza region.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), on May 12, 2025, an unsuspecting victim left Billionaires Bar and Restaurant at Kisiani Market with her cousin, both heading home on board a tuk-tuk.

As they approached their residence in Ongallo village, a grey Toyota Axio abruptly arrived, and before they could react, three men armed with machetes emerged.

The victim was forcibly taken and thrown into the vehicle, while her cousin managed to escape.

“The victim was yanked away like a lamb to slaughter, thrown into the waiting vehicle, while her cousin managed to flee,” stated the DCI.

The gang then swiftly drove towards Kisiani Junction while demanding money through the victim’s phone.

Hours later, she was found at Daraja Mbili along Kiboswa Road, having been gang raped and her phone and other valuables stolen.

“Detectives launched an extensive manhunt, following forensic clues that led them straight to Kisumu City Centre,” noted the DCI.

Fortunately, their target appeared: the grey Toyota Axio KDA 019U, recklessly navigating through traffic from Kisumu Patel Junction towards Kondele, unaware of the impending trap. This led to a car chase.

The Axio lost control and crashed. Fredrick Oduor Ongori, the driver and apparent ringleader, was nabbed on the spot.

Under intense interrogation, he cracked, leading detectives to Obunga slums, where his partner-in-crime, John Okumu Owidhi, alias Matools, was also apprehended.

“Further investigations revealed that the two suspects are jailbreak fugitives, long under the police radar,” the detectives added.

Now in custody, the duo faces the full force of the law as detectives expand their efforts to capture additional associates.
