The Ministry of Health has announced the deployment of 6,484 healthcare interns under the 2025/2026 Internship Cohort, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s healthcare system. The interns will officially report to their assigned facilities by July 1, 2025.

The interns will serve across six key medical cadres, including 1,147 Medical Officer Interns, 87 Dentist Interns, 500 Pharmacist Interns, 659 BSc Clinical Officer Interns, 1,993 Clinical Officer Interns (Diploma), and 2,098 BSc Nursing Officer Interns.

According to the Ministry, all eligible pre-interns are advised to collect their posting letters in person on Monday, 30th June 2025, from 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry’s headquarters, Afya House, Nairobi. Letters will be issued only upon presentation of a valid national ID.

The 12-month internship will be conducted in accredited internship centres across the country and is structured to offer supervised clinical training and practical exposure in real-world settings.

This milestone underscores the Ministry’s continued dedication to strengthening Kenya’s health workforce and developing a pipeline of skilled hands-on professionals to support service delivery across the country,’’ said Hon. Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Health.

Beyond workforce capacity, the move also offers significant motivation for newly graduated professionals entering the field.

It reflects the government’s dedication to nurturing young talent and building a strong foundation for future healthcare delivery.

By investing in structured training, the government aims to bridge workforce gaps and boost both morale and performance in Kenya’s health sector.
