Government Launches Empowerment Drive in Tana River County

The Government of Kenya has launched a community empowerment initiative targeting residents in Garsen, Galole, and Bura constituencies in Tana River County.

The program is part of a broader national agenda to uplift communities regardless of political affiliation or socio-economic status.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki led the event alongside Mining  Hassan Joho and other national and local leaders. They distributed various forms of support to youth, women, and vulnerable groups in the region, signaling the government’s commitment to inclusive development.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Kindiki emphasized the importance of unity and equality in service delivery.

“We are not here because of politics. We are here because development has no tribe, no religion, and no party. Every Kenyan matters,” he stated.

The initiative is expected to spur economic activities, improve livelihoods, and empower residents to participate in development processes. Various groups benefited from equipment, grants, and capacity-building support designed to boost productivity and self-reliance.

Leaders present also praised the collaboration between local stakeholders and the national government, noting that such partnerships are vital in unlocking the full potential of marginalized counties.

Beyond material support, the empowerment drive sought to inspire hope and encourage communities to actively shape their future. The government promised continued engagement and investment in underdeveloped regions.

As part of its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the state says it will continue to roll out similar programs in other parts of the country to close historical development gaps.

The Tana River initiative marks a major step toward equitable development and highlights the government’s resolve to make community empowerment a central pillar of national progress.
