President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in violence and destruction during protests, stating that the government will not tolerate criminal behavior disguised as lawful dissent. He made these remarks while chairing a high-level national security consultative meeting attended by top security officials and national administrators from across the country.

The meeting, held in response to recent demonstrations that turned violent, underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining public order while upholding constitutional freedoms. President Ruto affirmed the right to peaceful protest but drew a clear line between legitimate assembly and criminal conduct.

“This trend must change. The criminals that attack our officers & destroy property will be held to account. We will stand by every man & woman in uniform, & protect them, as they discharge their duties,” the president stated during the address.

The June 25 protests, along with other similar events, involved incidents of looting, destruction of property, and attacks on police officers. The government has classified such acts as grave offenses, bordering on economic sabotage and threats to national security.

The president praised the youth who have embraced peaceful ways of expressing grievances and called on all Kenyans to reflect on the consequences of violent actions.

“As a Nation, we must pause & reflect. The lives lost, the property & livelihoods destroyed, & the wounds both physical & emotional could have been avoided,” the statement emphasized.

The government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on lawlessness and pledged unwavering support for security officers. Moving forward, authorities promised swift and decisive action to ensure the rule of law prevails across the country.
