Health CS Aden Duale Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Universal Health Coverage

Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has reaffirmed government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage noting that healthcare remains a key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Speaking during a high-level meeting with the senior management of the Ministry of Health at Afya House, CS Duale discussed their mandates in advancing Universal Health Coverage under Kenya’s transformative agenda.

Hon. Duale stressed the importance of efficiency, accountability, and integrity in the management of health resources.

He called for strict adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks, including all relevant laws and legal notices, to ensure effective governance in the health sector.

“Hon. Duale emphasized the importance of strong leadership in Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs), urging them to understand their roles in enhancing decision-making to improve health sector coordination and governance,” stated MOH.

The Cabinet Secretary reiterated the importance of teamwork and prudent use of public resources, urging ministry officials to uphold honesty and professionalism in their duties.

He noted that efficient resource utilization is critical to achieving the Ministry’s objectives and delivering quality healthcare services nationwide.

He reiterated the need for the team to prioritize national interests, support the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), and operate within the framework of the Constitution and Kenyan law.

Hon. Duale was accompanied by, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth among other senior ministry officials.

The meeting, part of Hon. Duale’s familiarization visit, seeks to update him on the mandates of these institutions in relation to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
