The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, hosted athletes and members of the National Police Service (NPS) Sports Local Organising Committee (LOC) at his Jogoo House ‘A’ office.

The team presented trophies won in sporting events last year and this year, including those from the recently concluded 2025 Athletics Kenya National Championships.

IG Kanja congratulated the athletes, represented by Julius Yego, Millicent Ndoro and Ferdinand Omanyala, for their exemplary performance, which continues to reflect positively on the National Police Service (NPS), bringing immense honour and pride.

Recognising sports as a key unifying factor, not only within the Service but also in bridging the gap between the Service and the public, IG Kanja encouraged the athletes to stay on course, upholding high standards of discipline and integrity both on and off the field.

“He further noted that as the Service celebrates the milestones achieved, he remains committed to nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, and highly motivated sporting fraternity,” stated the NPS.

“This will empower athletes at all levels, promote teamwork and excellence, and ensure sustained growth and success across all disciplines,” NPS added.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the outgoing Chairperson, Mr. Stephen Etyang, to hand over the reins as he retires from service after 36 years.

Mr. Etyang, who was appointed chairperson in 2022, now passes the mantle to Mr. Francis Ndiema, SAIG, Director of Personnel (DCI), who takes over in an acting capacity.

IG Kanja congratulated Mr. Etyang on his retirement, noting it as a significant milestone and commending his legacy of exemplary leadership.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Assistant to the Inspector General Mr. Mathew Kutoh, SAIG; NPS Director of Training, Mr. Philip Opiyo, AIG; Director of Reforms, Mr. John Kamau, AIG; APS Director of Sports, Mr. Ramadhan Omar, AIG; In-Charge of Sports (KPS) Mr. Isaac Sang, AIG; Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, Ms. Dorothy Migarusha, CP; PA to the IG, Mr. James Murithi, CP, among other senior officers.
