Anti-narcotics detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have arrested an Indian national, Malik Aman, in Iten following a raid that led to the recovery of assorted pharmaceutical products believed to be unregistered or illicit.
The arrest follows weeks of surveillance by the specialized team, who had the suspect under close watch.
Acting on intelligence and armed with a search warrant issued by an Iten court, the officers raided Malik Aman’s residence where they recovered a substantial cache of pharmaceutical products.
“The team of hawkshaws who have had the foreign national under their radar raided his house pursuant to a search warrant granted by an Iten court where they thereafter iventorized and carted away the exhibits,” explained the DCI.
The operation was meticulously executed, and an inventory of the seized drugs was taken before the items were transported for further analysis.
According to authorities, the suspect was initially placed in custody but has since been released on cash bail to allow for comprehensive forensic examination of the seized substances by experts at the Government Chemist.
The arrest marks a significant milestone in the government’s intensified crackdown on the sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit and unregulated drugs.
Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to rooting out drug-related crime and protecting public health and safety.
Investigations into the origin and classification of the recovered pharmaceuticals are ongoing, and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the forensic analysis.
However the DCI has reaffirmed its war on illicit substances and drug abuse in the country.
