Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration,  Kipchumba Murkomen, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the security preparedness at Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums.

Accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, CS Murkomen expressed satisfaction with the progress, commending the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports for the timely completion of renovations at both stadiums and their associated training grounds.

The CHAN 2025 tournament is a unique biennial football competition organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Distinct from the Africa Cup of Nations, CHAN exclusively features national teams comprised of players competing in their respective home countries’ domestic leagues.

This landmark event, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is set to welcome over 18 African nations and represents a significant opportunity for Kenya to demonstrate its sporting capabilities and renowned hospitality on a global stage.

“With over 18 African countries expected to participate, this tournament will showcase Kenya’s sporting prowess and hospitality before a global audience,” Murkomen stated, highlighting the cultural and athletic significance of the event as well as emphasizing the nation’s readiness to welcome visitors from across the continent.

Elaborating on the extensive measures undertaken to guarantee safety, Murkomen detailed the security arrangements put in place.

These include the installation of high-tech CCTV cameras at the stadiums, controlled access points to regulate crowd flow, robust crowd control measures, readily available emergency response teams, and a coordinated presence of security personnel throughout the venues.

“As a Ministry, we have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of participating teams, officials, and fans,” he emphasized, reiterating the government’s commitment to a secure environment.

Furthermore, the government has refined its immigration and visa processing systems.

As CS Murkomen affirmed, these enhancements are designed to ensure seamless entry for all foreign delegations and guests, minimizing delays at Kenya’s ports of entry and facilitating a welcoming experience for international visitors.

CS Murkomen concluded his remarks with a compelling call for national unity and support. He encouraged all Kenyans to embrace the spirit of the tournament, stating, “I call upon everyone to support this important event by attending matches, guiding visitors where possible, and helping to present Kenya in the best light.”
