A popular hacker group has issued a warning to President William Ruto and his government as “Occupy Parliament” protests heat up.
Anonymous is a decentralized international activist and hacktivist movement group, primarily known for its various cyberattacks.
Its attacks range from several governments, government institutions, government agencies, corporations and the Church of Scientology.
Its members can be identified or distinguished as wearing masks similar to Guy Fawkes masks in the style portrayed in the graphic novel and film, V for Vendetta.
Some anons also mask their voices through voice changers or text-to-speech programs.
On June 13, 2011, the group launched attacks on Turkish government websites as a response to the Turkish government’s demands to ISPs to implement a system of filters that many have perceived as censorship.
The group was also part of supporters of the global Occupy movement and the Arab Spring. They have also been part of hacks on PayPal and MasterCard.
In 2012, Time- an American newsmagazine based in New York City, named Anonymous one of the “100 most influential people” in the world.
The group’s media profile diminished by 2018 but the group re-emerged in 2020 to support the George Floyd protests and other causes.
The group issued a stunning warning to members of parliament and the president himself stating that there will soon be an uprising of hackers, of whom some may reside within the country.
“Your secrets will no longer be safe and there is a chance that all these secrets will be exposed,”, stated the anonymous.
The group went on to claim that all the government secrets will be exposed and show citizens how corrupt and unjust members of the parliament are embezzling public funds for their gain.
“Listen to the cries of your citizens, or the people of the world will resist you every step of the way. Citizens of Kenya, do not worry, Tuko Pamoja! We are Anonymous, We are Legion, Expect us!” stated Anonymous.
The group called to action MPs not to amend the Finance Bill but to reject it.
