The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula hosted the Algerian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Mahi Boumediene, at Parliament Buildings for a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Algeria.

The discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, building on engagements initiated during the Speaker’s visit to Algiers last year.

“Our discussions centered on the strengthening of bilateral relations between Kenya and Algeria, particularly in the areas of technology, higher education, health, and energy and petroleum. These conversations built upon the engagements initiated during my visit to Algiers last year,” noted Wetangula.

In a move to enhance parliamentary diplomacy, the Speaker extended an invitation to the President of the Parliament of Algeria, underscoring the importance of legislative collaboration in advancing shared development goals.

“As part of our commitment to deepening parliamentary diplomacy, I extended an invitation to the President of the Parliament of Algeria to explore avenues for further collaboration between our two nations,” added Wetangula.

Additionally, appreciation was conveyed to Algeria for its steadfast support of Kenya’s candidacy in the recently concluded African Union Commission Chairmanship elections, where former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga was fronted.

The Speaker also recognized Algeria’s contribution to Kenya’s education sector through scholarships, particularly in technology-based fields, which continue to empower young Kenyan scholars.

As the Holy Month of Ramadan approaches, the Speaker extended warm wishes to the Muslim community, calling for a period of reflection, prayer, generosity, and peace.
