The Ministry of Health is enhancing efforts to equip Kenyan healthcare workers with the necessary skills for international employment, particularly in Germany.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Mr. Harry Kimtai, the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, welcomed representatives from the German Embassy for a discussion on programs designed to create employment prospects for qualified yet unemployed Kenyan nurses.
The Ministry of Health reported that the discussions focused on establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving Kenya, Germany, and the four primary referral hospitals in the country to promote specialized training programs.
“These programs will focus on German language proficiency and professional requirements, ensuring that Kenyan nurses meet the necessary linguistic and technical competency standards for employment in Germany’s healthcare sector,” the Ministry of Health said on X.
“A key aspect of the initiative is the role of the Goethe Institute, which will be instrumental in providing tailored language and professional training.”
The Ministry of Health additionally stated that this initiative seeks to facilitate the smooth incorporation of Kenyan professionals into the German labor market, while also ensuring that training is consistent with global industry standards.
“The Ministry remains committed to expanding opportunities for skilled Kenyan workers while addressing global workforce demands,” the PS stated.
The MOH emphasized that the collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Germany in skills development and employment pathways.
