In June 2024, the Government of Kenya and the Republic of Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) involving the Korean Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) and the Bandari Maritime Academy to enhance maritime education and training.

Following this, CS Ali Hassan Joho hosted a delegation from KIMFT to discuss the implementation of the MOU in more detail.

The delegation, led by Prof. Jinsoo Park, informed CS Joho about their ongoing mission to visit Kenyan institutions to assess their shipping and maritime curricula and training programs.

This assessment seeks to evaluate their quality against global standards as part of the MOU’s execution.

“We remain optimistic that this collaboration will significantly strengthen the capacity of our institutions and advance the development of our maritime sector,” said CS Ali Hassan Joho.

This partnership with KIMFT is set to elevate Kenya’s maritime education and training to global standards, strengthening the sector’s overall capacity and development.

The MOU signifies a strategic step for Kenya in its ambition to become a leading maritime hub in the region, leveraging Korea’s renowned expertise in maritime education and technology to equip its seafarers and maritime professionals with world-class skills.
