Kenyatta University has been honoured with Bronze Mark of Excellence at the 17th CIO100 Symposium & Awards 2025, held from 19–21 November at Enashipai Resort & Spa, Naivasha.
The achievement places the institution among Africa’s top technology leaders driving transformation, innovation and sector wide impact.
This prestigious recognition places the University among the top 100 organisations on the continent demonstrating visionary digital leadership and transformative innovation.
According to a statement, Kenyatta University was selected among the 100 organisations that made their way to the final C10100 list.
“Kenyatta University has been honoured with the Bronze Mark of Excellence at the 17th CIO100 Symposium & Awards 2025,” read the statement.
Kenyatta University’s Bronze Mark of Excellence underscores its steadfast dedication to innovation, research excellence and the strategic use of technology as a driver of sustainable development.
Kenyatta University’s finalist project, “Tour Kenya: Search, Explore and Discover,” stood out for its unique contribution to tourism resilience and digital transformation.
The platform is a pioneering digital knowledge hub that provides accurate, interactive, and comprehensive tourism information for all of Kenya’s 47 counties.
Backed by more than a decade of research and the contributions of over 100 researchers, the project consolidates georeferenced tourism data into the University’s ArcGIS platform.
Its key features include:
- Thousands of mapped tourism products and experiences across all 47 counties.
- 11 thematic categories showcasing Kenya’s diverse tourism assets.
- Interactive GIS maps, thematic circuits and dynamic story maps
In efforts to enhance Kenya’s visibility and competitiveness as a resilient and diverse tourism , the University plans to strengthen the platform through field-based data validation, identification of market-ready tourism products, and integration of enhanced content into national and international marketing channels such as Magical Kenya.
Winning the Bronze Mark of Excellence is a resounding endorsement of Kenyatta University’s leadership in digital transformation and research-driven innovation.
In addition, it reinforces the University’s role as a key influencer shaping the future of technology and tourism in Africa’s digital and tourism future.
