Members of the Law Society of Kenya are expected to elect new officials today with the tenure of LSK president Erick Theuri coming to an end.
Elections are currently taking place across 36 polling stations across the country with lawyers in Nairobi casting their votes in Milimani law courts and the supreme court while lawyers in Kisumu cast their votes at the Kisumu Law Courts. The LSK top seat, the presidency has a non-renewable two-year term with 5 candidates contesting for the seat.
They include Daudi Carolyne Kamende, Odhiambo Faith Aoko, currently serving as Theuri’s Deputy, Manyonge Peter Wanyama, Mboce Harriet Njoki, and Ng’etich Bernhard Kipkoech. Other seats currently being contested include the position of vice president, members of the council, Male representative to the judicial service commission, and members of the advocates’ disciplinary tribunal. The outgoing LSK president Eric Theuri is also contesting for the seat of the Male representative to the Judicial Service Commission, alongside Ombati Samson and Michael Nyongesa.
The incoming president is set to be the 51st president of the LSK. The elections kicked off today across the polling stations at 8:00a.m and the exercise will conclude at 5:oop.m.
The Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the former Attorney General Githu Muigai turned up at the Milimani Law Court to cast their votes.
The winners of the elections will be announced after tallying, at the LSK headquarters in Gatanga Road, Nairobi.
