Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has mourned the tragic loss of Kenyatta University students who were on a study trip on their way to Mombasa.
In a press statement issued this afternoon, he expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. He wished the injured students a quick recovery and pledged to keep the public and families of those affected informed.
In a press release dated 19th March 2024, The CS reaffirmed his commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. “As Minister for Education, I assure you that we will work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, and we will closely examine how we can prevent such accidents from happening in the future.” pledged Machogu.
The accident occurred yesterday evening when the bus collided with a truck trailer near Maungu in Taita Taveta county. 24 students are currently hospitalized. 8 students in critical condition have been airlifted to Nairobi through the support of AMREF Flying doctors, provided 3 planes to help in the medical evacuation.
Another 8 students who are in critical condition are also being airlifted for further treatment in Nairobi, through the support of the Kenya Red Cross.
