Detectives in Makindu have arrested two men believed to be the masterminds of a motor vehicle theft racket that has been terrorizing motorists along major highways.
The suspects, Joseph Katee Nzainga and Nelson Musyoki Mbidyo, are accused of targeting vehicles destined for Uganda as well as unregistered cars bearing Kenya Dealers (KD) plates.
In one of their latest strikes on August 28, 2025, the duo is alleged to have violently taken possession of a black Toyota Harrier with KD plates from a motorist in the Makindu area.
“In one incident on August 28, 2025, the pair allegedly robbed a black Toyota Harrier with KD plates from a motorist in the Makindu area,” stated the DCI.
The suspects were arrested along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway following an intelligence-led operation that led to recovery of several items including registration plates KDR885Z.
“Following their arrest along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, detectives recovered several items, including a set of registration plates (KDR 885Z), three ID cards belonging to different people, five mobile phones, a wheel spanner, and other assorted items,” added the DCI.
The two suspects are currently in custody undergoing further interrogation pending court arraignment.
