A disturbing case of child abuse has come to light as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) charged Kennedy Otieno Ochieng with defilement, child pornography, and trafficking in persons on May 21, 2025.
The charges were presented before the Milimani Children’s Court in Nairobi, where the accused faced Hon. Dr. Alice Macharia.
The allegations centre around the abuse of a 15-year-old boy in Kangemi, Dagoretti Sub-County, between February 1 and April 23, 2025.
The ODPP revealed that Otieno Ochieng is accused of “intentionally and unlawfully defiling a 15-year-old boy” during the specified period.
In addition to the defilement charge, he faces an alternative count of committing an indecent act, alongside five counts of child pornography under Section 24(1)(d) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018.
Between February 8 and April 24, 2025, the accused “unlawfully produced a child pornography video, found in possession of a child pornography video, and unlawfully shared a child pornography video using his mobile phone,” Prosecuting Counsel Grace Musangi informed the court.
Otieno Ochieng also faces a trafficking charge, with the prosecution alleging that he “harboured a male aged 15 years, to exploit the said child sexually” in the Waruku-Kangemi area.
The gravity of these accusations has raised alarm about the safety of vulnerable children in urban communities like Kangemi.
The ODPP’s commitment to tackling such crimes is evident in their use of the hashtag #HakiNaUsawa, which translates to “Justice and Equality,” underscoring their pursuit of justice for victims.
Despite denying the charges, Otieno Ochieng was denied bond due to the seriousness of the offenses.
The court scheduled the next hearing for June 17, 2025.
This case highlights the urgent need for stronger measures to combat child exploitation and cybercrimes in Kenya, aligning with the objectives of the 2018 Cybercrimes Act.
