A court has sentenced to death a man charged with two counts of robbery with violence in Dagorreti Sub county.
Isaac Khanga was found guilty of robbing two men of mobile phones valued at Ksh. 39,000 and cash amounting to Ksh. 30,000.
The offences occurred separately on the night of 3rd November 2024 at around 11:00 p.m. in the Kawangware Madiaba area.
In the first incident, Khanga stole a Tecno mobile phone worth Ksh. 24,000 and Ksh. 30,000 in cash from one of the victims.
In the second incident, he robbed another victim of a phone valued at Ksh. 15,000.
“The prosecution, led by Counsel Ann Murage, proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt,” the Office of The Director of Public Prosecution stated (ODPP) stated.
Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi, when delivering her judgement, emphasized that the death penalty remains legal in Kenya and is not unconstitutional.
Khanga was convicted in two separate robbery cases, each resulting in a death penalty.
“The court also heard that Khanga committed the crimes jointly with accomplices who were not before the court,” the ODPP stated.
He was formally charged on the 15th of November 2024 by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The case was concluded within just six months, from arrest to final sentencing.
“The case was concluded within six months, a commendable demonstration of judicial efficiency,” the ODPP stated.
