Moscow plane crash, 41 people killed on the Aeroflot jet

Forty-one people were killed after a Russian plane made an emergency landing and burst into flames at Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow on Sunday.

The Sukhoi Superjet-100, which was carrying 73 passengers and five crew departed Sheremetyevo airport for the Murmansk city and shortly thereafter, the crew issued a distress signal on the occurrence of malfunctions forcing the plane to return to the airport.

According to an investigative committee official, 37 survivors, that is 33 passengers and 4 members of the crew escaped the burning aircraft using emergency exit slides in 55 seconds. Two children and a flight attendant were among the dead as 5 people receive treatment in hospital.

So far some flights have been diverted to other airports as the region announces a three-day mourning period.
