Mr. Mohamed I. Amin Elected as Africa’s Delegate to INTERPOL Executive Committee

Kenya has secured a prestigious international honour following the election of Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, Director of Criminal Investigations, as Africa’s Delegate to the INTERPOL Executive Committee at the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco.

Kenya’s delegation to the Assembly received support from Amb. Jessica M. Gakinya, Mr. Billy Mathu of the Kenya Mission in Rabat and Ms. Eva Nthoki, Head of Candidatures Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the reports, Mr. Amin’s candidature was formally introduced to the INTERPOL membership by the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja underscoring national unity and Kenya’s resolve to strengthen its leadership global policing.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Amin expressed deep gratitude to Member States for their confidence in his leadership:

“I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility as Delegate for Africa to the INTERPOL Executive Committee. Your confidence in my candidacy reflects Kenya’s commitment to international policing and the importance of partnership across our regions,” Stated Mr. Amin.

He also reiterated his dedication to protecting vulnerable.

“I will continue to advocate for the tools, capacities, and cooperation needed to dismantle criminal networks and defend the rights and lives of those who depend on us the most,” he added.

Under his leadership, Kenya has strengthened its integration with INTERPOL’s policing infrastructure and expanded collaboration with AFRIPOL, the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO), and international security partners.

As he steps into his continental mandate, Mr. Amin has pledged to prioritise:

  • Elevating Africa’s voice and priorities within INTERPOL.
  • Advancing technology-driven policing.
  • Strengthening capacity building and joint operations.
  • Intensifying efforts against human trafficking and child exploitation.

The Assembly also elected France’s Mr. Lucas Philippe as INTERPOL President for a four-year term, China’s Mr. Wang Yong as Vice-President for Asia on a three year mandate,  Ms. Kazumi Ogasawara of Japan as Delegate for Asia, and Mr. Stefano Carvelli of Italy as Delegate for Europe.
