The National Assembly has approved the appointment of nine Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House Business Committee (HBC) following nominations by the Majority and Minority Party leaders. This appointment is in accordance with the Standing Orders of the National Assembly.
The Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa, submitted his nominations to the Clerk of the National Assembly on February 6, 2025, while the Leader of the Minority Party, Hon. Junet Mohammed, submitted his nominations on February 10, 2025. The approved members will play a crucial role in setting the legislative agenda for the House.
The newly appointed members to the House Business Committee are:
- Hon. Omboko Milemba
- Hon. Robert Mbui
- Hon. Faith Wairimu Gitau
- Hon. Samuel K. Chepkonga
- Hon. Adan Wehliye Keynan
- Hon. Tom Joseph Francis Kajwang’
- Hon. Joshua Mbithi Mwalyo
- Hon. Umul Ker Kassim Sheikh
The appointed members will join the Speaker of the National Assembly (who chairs the committee), the Leader of the Majority Party, the Leader of the Minority Party, and the Whips of both parties to constitute the House Business Committee.
In a motion tabled in the House, Speaker Moses Wetangula instructed the newly appointed members to convene immediately and begin planning the legislative agenda.
“I direct all Members of the House Business Committee to meet this afternoon and schedule the business of the House,” Speaker Wetangula stated.
The House Business Committee is a key organ of the National Assembly, responsible for determining the order in which bills, motions, and other parliamentary business are scheduled for debate and consideration. The swift approval of the committee ensures that the legislative process remains smooth and efficient.
With the committee in place, Parliament is now set to continue its legislative duties with renewed focus and efficiency, addressing critical national issues and ensuring timely decision-making on key matters affecting the country.
