Nintendo has today officially launched the Nintendo Switch 2, ushering in a new chapter for hybrid gaming with a bold blend of upgraded technology and classic appeal.
The global rollout introduces powerful new features designed to deepen connectivity and elevate gameplay.
“Nintendo Switch 2 is the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go, based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained the game.
The Switch 2 debuts with Joy-Con 2 controllers, which attach magnetically and double as a mouse in select games, offering more flexible input.
It also features a larger, high-resolution display and improved performance, including 4K output when docked.
The game’s standout feature is GameChat, which enables real-time voice and video chat with friends using the C button on the right Joy-Con. Players can speak with up to 12 people via the console’s built-in mic or connect a USB-C camera for full video interaction.
“With its new features that expand the possibilities of gaming experiences, I truly believe that Nintendo Switch 2 is a leap forward in our journey of putting smiles on the faces of everyone that Nintendo touches,” President Furukawa added.
Moreover, the new console retains backwards compatibility, allowing players to enjoy titles from the original Switch library.
The launch lineup includes much-anticipated games like Metroid Prime 4, Mario Kart World, and updated versions of legacy hits.
Demand has been overwhelming, with pre-orders selling out in key markets. Nintendo has pledged to ramp up production to meet global interest.
The Switch 2 is not just a console, it’s a continuation of Nintendo’s legacy of fun, innovation, and togetherness.
“Bringing players together, anywhere and anytime, with new ways to play and connect,” said Nintendo.
