PARENTS DEMAND JUSTICE FOR SON

A  disciplinary action by Moi High School –Gesusu teachers to extract information from some students over a fire incident turned awry when one student allegedly sustained injuries on his eye. Zabian Onyancha aged 14 and in form two did not report to school from  half term due to an inflammation on his left eye  among other pains received  from the alleged assault. According to his father Patrick Marube from Iringa village,in Gucha South,  one of the teachers had rung to inform him that his son will visit an hospital before coming home for the half term.

The  father’s pleas  to the teacher to allow  his   son  come at home first before he  could be taken to hospital were vindicated when he  arrived looking sickly. After narrating the story, the father took his son  for  medication at different hospitals before he  recorded statements on what had befallen him  at Gesusu and Ramasha police stations. The father was worried that his son’s  studies and health could be affected because of what he went going through.

Zabian’s uncle,David Marube, faulted the school administration for  using extra –legal means to seek information from the students  by  administering punishment  and  failure to inform the parents. He also blamed the teachers for denying the  injured student medical attention until three days later,a move that might complicate his health   condition. The uncle urged parents whose children were assaulted to come out and seek justice for them adding, they were in touch with the Human Rights office on the same. Zabian’s Parents and uncle  demanded intervention  from the relevant authorities  and an assurance on the safety of their children  in schools.
