Members of Parliament returned to the National Assembly for the second part of the Third session after a busy recess where House Committees considered the Supplementary Estimates II and the 2024/2025 Budget estimates.
“I am aware that the recess period was very busy for most Committees,” said the National Assembly, Speaker Hon. Wetangula welcoming members back.
A packed agenda awaits lawmakers, with consideration of key Bills including the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024 and the Finance Bill 2024.

Members will prioritize consideration of the mediated version of the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024 which outlines an increased equitable share to counties in the Financial Year 2024/25. This follows successful negotiations by the Mediation Committee, co-chaired by Hon. Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Sen. Kathuri Murungi (Meru).
The Supplementary Estimates II and the 2024/2025 Budget Estimates, along with their Appropriation Bills, will also be reviewed by the House.
Several other important bills are on the docket, including consideration of the County Allocation of Revenue Bill and the Kenya Drugs Authority Bill.
In his address to the House, Dr. Wetang’ula emphasized the urgency of the upcoming business.
“Part of the business before the House during this month of June has statutory timelines,” he stated.
“The finalization of consideration of the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024, Supplementary Estimates II for the FY 2023/2024 and the Estimates for the FY 2024/2025 have prescribed timelines,” added Speaker Wetang’ula.
Upon approval by the Senate, legislators will also examine associated bills such as the Supplementary Appropriation Bill and the County Allocation of Revenue Bill.
