On the morning of June 9, 2025, at 11:30 AM , a simple shed with corrugated iron walls in Rongo Township transformed into a hub of unity.
Inside, a National Police Service (NPS) officer from Kamagambo Police Station addressed a gathering of Boda Boda leaders and riders.
The meeting was for a call for collaboration between local bodaboda riders and the police
This community engagement meeting, aligned with the NPS Strategic Plan 2023–2027, marked a pivotal moment in fostering trust between law enforcement and the public.
The room, filled with attentive faces buzzed with a shared purpose as the officer outlined a new era of partnership.
The audience showed eagerness and readiness since they availed themselves for this dialogue and listened as the officer outlined a collaborative path forward.
The forum, co-organized with the Boda Boda Umbrella Association, tackled pressing issues.
“ As a boda boda operator, make sure that you are registered under a SACCO,strictly adhere to traffic regulations and increase accountability among group leaders including removal of rogue members,” said the National Police Service on their X handle.
The officer’s authoritative yet approachable stance, symbolized a shift from confrontation to cooperation.
For years, Boda Boda operators faced scrutiny for crime and accidents yet their role as vital transporters in Kenya’s urban sprawl is undeniable.
This meeting, attended by engaged leaders, reflected a community policing model that is, crime prevention strategies by blending local input with police oversight.
This was a step to a shared responsibility between locals and the police service.
