President William Ruto had engaged in discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the circumstances in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the State House, President Macron contacted President Ruto, who serves as the Chair of the East African Community, to convey his support for regional initiatives to mitigate the hostilities in Eastern DRC.
President Macron also committed his country’s support for the interventions being carried out to end the conflict and for Kenya’s participation in other peace initiatives in Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan.
“President Ruto also had a telephone conversation with Secretary of State Rubio on a variety of issues of mutual concern for the two countries,” State House said on X.
“On regional peace and security, Secretary Rubio praised Kenya’s efforts to promote regional stability.”
“They discussed the situation in the Eastern DRC and the support needed from the United States of America in ending the conflict and returning the country to normalcy,” State House Kenya noted.
State House highlighted that President Ruto updated Secretary Rubio on the security situation in Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia.
“I am glad that the US has committed to continue to deploying its capabilities to support Kenya’s peace mission in the region,” he said.
The leaders also deliberated on the Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti, which is led by the United Nations, and reached a consensus on a collaborative strategy to ensure the mission fulfils its intended objectives.
Regarding the economic partnership between Kenya and the United States, they emphasized the importance of finalizing the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement. This agreement aims to enhance investment and foster sustainable and inclusive economic growth by capitalizing on available economic opportunities.
