Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi participated in the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of Follow-Up Actions from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which commenced with a significant announcement from China.
In a move poised to boost African economies, China has declared zero tariffs on all African products entering its market.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi represented Kenya at the ministerial session, which brought together 53 African nations.
During the meeting, Mudavadi underscored Kenya’s support for the declarations leading up to the 2025 Ministerial Summit, marking 25 years since FOCAC’s founding.
“I noted that this meeting comes at a time when shifting global dynamics are challenging multilateralism. In this context, China continues to stand out as a steadfast partner and a powerful voice for the Global South, including the African continent,” stated Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The zero-tariff announcement is expected to significantly enhance Africa’s economic ties with China, providing a substantial boost to African trade and economic growth through increased market access. This development underscores China’s dedication to fostering a mutually beneficial partnership with Africa.
As FOCAC celebrates a quarter century of promoting China-Africa cooperation, this meeting sets the stage for strengthened collaboration and new opportunities for economic growth and development between China and the African continent.
