The former Prime Minister of Kenya, Hon. Raila Odinga, continued with his AUC campaigns in Chad on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024. H.E. President Mahamat Idriss Déby extended a warm reception for his visit.

According to Raila Odinga, they discussed issues touching on his African Union Commission (AUC) candidature.

Mr. Odinga emphasized the need to unite Africa using infrastructure, intra-African trade, and addressing visa policies to ease the movement of people and goods.

“It will take the goodwill of all of us, leaders and citizens working together to dismantle barriers and foster unity, to amplify our voice as Africa to get to our rightful position on the global stage,” Raila Odinga wrote on X.

He further shared his vision for the youth, placing them at the centre stage as the driving force behind innovation and change in the continent.

“I envision vibrant cities buzzing with energy as young entrepreneurs leverage technology and creativity to build dynamic businesses,” he added.

Taking to his X platform he said that President Mahamat expressed his gratitude for the visit and shared his appreciation for Odinga’s vision, which prioritizes African solutions to the continent’s challenges.

The African Union Commission (AUC) elections will be held in February 2025 to replace the current chairperson, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, who has served in this role since 2017 and was re-elected for a second term in February 2021.
