Kenya has reiterated its dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, emphasized the pressing necessity for ongoing international collaboration to maintain a balance between the promising advancements that AI can bring to various aspects of society and the intricate ethical, security, and governance issues that it raises.
CS Tuya remarked that the Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM), Summit 2024 marks a significant milestone in the collective efforts toward responsible AI governance in military and security domains.
“We are commitment to continue engaging in the process of developing the UN resolution on Responsible AI in the Military Domain which underscores the need to ensure that the development, deployment and use of AI promotes peace, security, and human dignity,” noted CS Tuya.
“Kenya is equally steadfast in her commitment to implementing the REAIM Blueprint for Action, which advocates for transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in AI development,” the defence CS stated.
“We shall focus on strengthening our partnerships and collaboration to ensure AI is used for the global common good,” she further added.
The Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit 2024, hosted in Seoul and co-hosted by the Republic of Korea, Kenya, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia, represented a crucial advancement in promoting international collaboration on the governance of responsible AI within military and security sectors.
The summit convened policymakers, military officials, AI experts, and civil society representatives to address the dual potential of AI as both a catalyst of societal progress and a source of complex ethical, security, and governance challenges.
