Rigathi Gachagua Makes Surprise Stop in Chuka as Residents Block Convoy for Engagement

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made an impromptu stop in Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County, on Thursday after his convoy was unexpectedly halted by enthusiastic residents eager to engage with him.

The former Deputy President was en route to Meru for a planned public engagement when the stopover occurred.

In a social media post shared shortly after the incident, Gachagua expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received, calling it a reflection of the people’s deep concern and involvement in national progress.

“On my way to Meru for public engagement, I had an unexpected stopover after residents of Chuka in Tharaka Nithi County blocked my convoy, asking me to speak with them. I truly appreciate your warmth and engagement. Our collective effort towards a better Kenya is unstoppable,” he wrote.

The Former Deputy President, standing atop his official vehicle, addressed the large crowd that had gathered around him.

The streets of Chuka were filled with residents—men, women, and youth—many waving, cheering, and raising placards as they listened to Gachagua speak.

Security officers and local leaders were present to help manage the crowd and maintain order.

This impromptu interaction is not the first of its kind for Gachagua, who has consistently branded himself as a “people’s leader” with a strong focus on grassroots connection.

Chuka, a commercial hub in Tharaka Nithi, holds strategic political importance due to its vocal electorate and location within the vote-rich Mount Kenya East region.
