Sarah Wairimu Charged with Giving False Information in Ongoing Cohen Case Investigation

The key suspect in the murder of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, has been arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts to answer charges relating to providing false information to police and swearing a false affidavit regarding the alleged loss of her passport.

According to investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Wairimu falsely reported to a police station that her passport, No. BK043532, had been lost.

Acting on the information she provided, the officer in charge issued her with a police abstract to facilitate replacement of the document.

“Her arraignment is the culmination of investigations conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), where it was established that Wairimu knowingly provided false information to the officer in charge of the station, claiming that her passport No. BK043532 was lost. This prompted the officer to issue her with a police abstract based on her false report,” the DCI stated.

However, further investigations revealed that on the same day she filed the police report, Wairimu visited Pamki House in Nyeri Town, where she appeared before Advocate Muchiri wa Gathoni and swore an affidavit affirming that the passport was lost.

She later used both the police abstract and the affidavit to apply for a new passport at the Immigration Department offices in Nairobi.

Authorities have since established that Wairimu’s original passport was not lost as claimed, but was in the custody of DCI officers as part of the ongoing investigations into the murder of her husband, the late Tob Cohen.

Upon reviewing the evidence, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved charges against Wairimu for:

  • Giving false information to a police officer
  • Swearing a false affidavit.

She appeared before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul at the Kibera Law Courts, where she denied the charges.

The court ordered that she be remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison pending further legal proceedings.

The matter has been scheduled for mention on 25th November 2025 for a pretrial conference.
