The Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism has elected Kwale Senator Boy Issa Juma as its new chairperson and Senator Esther Okenyuri (Nominated) as the vice chairperson during elections held at Parliament Buildings today.
The elections followed the nomination of new members to the committee, which plays a crucial role in overseeing trade, industrialization, tourism, cooperatives, investment, and divestiture policies in Kenya.
Senator Okenyuri, the newly elected deputy chairperson, echoed the commitment to fostering business-friendly policies and enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in global markets.
The committee also welcomed new members, including Senators John Methu (Nyandarua), George Mbugua (Nominated), Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga), and Hamida Kibwana (Nominated). Other members are Senator Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Senator Karungo Thangwa (Kiambu), and Senator Okiya Omtatah (Busia).
The Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism is established under Standing Order 228(3) and the Fourth Schedule of the Senate Standing Orders.
Its mandate includes reviewing trade policies, promoting industrial growth, enhancing tourism development, and overseeing cooperative movements in the country.
With the newly elected leadership, the committee is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policies that will drive economic transformation, attract investments, and create job opportunities for Kenyans.
