Senior Turkana County Official Arraigned Over Fake Degree

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a senior Turkana County official for allegedly using a forged degree certificate to secure public employment.

Mr. Charles Ekai Erukundi, who served as the Deputy Director of Resource Mobilization in the Turkana County Government, was arraigned at the Lodwar Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Investigations revealed that he falsified a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree to secure the job in 2018.

“Investigations revealed that Mr. Charles Ekai Erukundi faked a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree to land the role of Deputy Director, Resource Mobilization at Turkana County Government,” stated the EACC.

However the suspect pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including forgery, uttering a false document, and fraudulently obtaining public funds amounting to Kes 3,961,672.05 in salaries between December 2018 and May 2021.

Lodwar Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Evanson Ngigi granted Mr. Erukundi a Kes 500,000 cash bail, pending further proceedings.

The case is scheduled for mention on March 18, 2025.
