Nyamira deputy governor (DG) Dr. James Gesami has challenged elected leaders to serve the electorate or opt out. The DG who was finally appointed to the office after an acrimonious vetting process initially, vowed to assist the residents improve their economic welfare without discrimination. Speaking at Uhuru Gardens,Gesami,former, West Mugirango MP and Health Assistant minister,pledged to ensure the residents enjoyed improved road network, and health services among others.
He advocated for embracing exclusivity and equity if the county was to develop faster and alleviate poverty. Gesami forgave his critics ,undertook to work with leaders irrespective divergent views saying he will not betray sitting governor. Governor, Amos Nyaribo regretted time wasted in appointing the DG and County Executive Committee members terming it a disservice to the people. Urging leaders to support him Nyaribo, remarked his detractors had a right to air their contrary views including insulting him,but he urged them to respect the office of the governor.
The residents were assured of access to all-weather roads,water supplies and drugs at health facilities. Amos Mariba area county commissioner decried the manner in which covid19 containment measures were being flouted with abandon as the pandemic continued to claim lives. According to the commissioner, civil servants who could not have been vaccinated against coronavirus by August 22 2021 will be barred from accessing their places of work.
