Kenya Railways said that they will be scheduling train stops at Mtito Andei and at Voi as from the 1st of August.
The managing director, Atanas Maina, said that it was due to public demand that the decision had to be made, to allow commuters to alight and aboard from either of the two stations. Passengers will produce their tickets from the termini or through M-Pesa.
“We have decided to escalate the service slightly more by having two stops on the same service. So from first of August we will be stopping at Voi and Mtito Andei,” Mr Maina said,
The stops will be made by the two trains currently in service, with each stop taking an average of about three minutes.
“We had hoped to commence the operations of county trains but we thought that before we can do so, we will first continue with intercounty trains. From August 1, we have decided to escalate the service slightly by having two stops on the same services,” said Mr Maina.
The State did that more locomotives will be needed for smoother running of the two inter-county service trains, that will support the existing Madaraka Express train and travel in both directions.
