Somesha Mwenzako

Somesha Mwenzako is a drive by the Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) to raise funds that are used to help pay fees for financially challenged students

Following yesterday’s news of a Multimedia University student,Fredrick Kinyanjui a second-year,who committed suicide after being sent home over school fee, we look at how some Universities have tried to curb such incidents from happening.

On the highlight today is Kenyatta University with their masterpiece Somesha Mwenzako plan.

Here, students are given a chance to help other needy students clear their school fee.

A form is given stamped by relevant offices and the student in need can then ask friends to contribute for him/her.

The beauty of it all is that you can contribute from as low as Kshs. 10 to as much as  kshs. 1000 just as long as you help a needy student make strides towards fee clearance.

Ever since its inception, Somesha Mwenzako has been a vital turning point to the lives of many comrades who would have otherwise failed to continue with their studies due to lack of school fee.

With repeated reports  of  varsity students taking their lives due to the lack of school fee, I feel such philanthropic initiatives should be adopted to reduce if not put an end to such incidents.

Somesha Mwenzako is a great act of generosity by Kenyatta University students shows that they care for their own comrades and this should be emulated by institutions of higher learning all over the nation.
