Speaker Wetangula Discusses Environmental Conservation With Nairobi County Officials

By Laura Nyabang’a

Speaker Wetangula held a meeting with Nairobi County Environment Department Chief Officer Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria to identify ways of conserving the environment in Nairobi city and its environs, focusing on collaboration to address pollution and support the Nairobi River Regeneration Programme.

Key in their discussion was collaboration between the National Assembly, Nairobi River Commission and the County Government in supporting the Nairobi River Regeneration and Engineering Works Programme mandate to clean the Nairobi River.

“Environmental conservation is crucial for protecting biodiversity, maintaining ecosystem stability and ensuring sustainable resource management,” stated Speaker Wetangula.

Pollution of rivers in Nairobi city and waste management remains a thorn in the flesh for Nairobi County an issue attributed to among others, inadequate enforcement of environmental regulations by the responsible agencies.

Air pollution, in particular, has become a major threat to public health, with many citizens including children and newborns suffering from upper respiratory conditions and allergic reactions triggered by poor air quality.

Through this initiative, Speaker Wetangula demonstrates his commitment to promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development in Nairobi. As the city continues to grow and develop, it is essential that environmental protection remains a top priority.
