Speaker Wetangula Urges Dialogue Amid Indo-Pak Tensions

Speaker Wetangula hosted H.E. Ibrar Hussain Khan, the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Kenya, during a courtesy call at his office in Parliament Buildings.

The High Commissioner provided a briefing on the current status of the Indo-Pakistani conflict along the international border. While a ceasefire remains in place, he noted that tensions are still high and the situation remains delicate.

“I underscored the importance of restraint and urged all parties to pursue peaceful, diplomatic pathways to resolve their differences. History has shown that sustainable peace is built not on conflict, but on dialogue, mutual respect, and compromise,” said Speaker Wetangula.

Pakistan remains a strategic trade partner to Kenya, particularly as our largest importer of tea. Any escalation of hostilities in the region could have far-reaching economic implications for both countries and the global community.

Speaker Wetangula also expressed concern about the human cost of war, especially on vulnerable populations who often bear the greatest burden in times of conflict.

Nonetheless, Speaker Wetangula was encouraged by the ongoing steps toward de-escalation and dialogue between the concerned parties.

Also present during the meeting were officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Steve Apopo, Director of the Speaker’s Office.
